In 2012 the Trust’s Award was given to the Hillcrest Housing Association for its headquarters building at Dundee Technology Park (one of 15 projects completed between March 2010 and May 2012 considered by the jury). The Trust considers the £5.3 m, 7,200 sq m development’s striking external appearance a beacon of good design which sits well in the landscape when viewed from all sides. It provides a superb working environment for 85 employees in a highly energy-efficient and sustainable building. The architects were Nicoll Russell Studios, the client Hillcrest Group and the main contractor W H Brown.
Commendations were also given to the remarkable £48m transformation of the former Northern College to create the Dundee College Gardyne campus; the loving restoration of Aystree House in West Ferry to its former Arts and Crafts glory, creating 6 luxury flats; and the Council’s foresight and imaginative planning to create the Riverside Nature Park from the former “Coup” landfill waste site.
